After completing Unit 3 practical work it is now time to start working on Unit 4.
For STUDIO ARTS students that means looking at your selected Potential Directions and deciding upon the ‘way ahead’ in producing at least 2 finished artworks. 4cats recommend you start by preparing part of your F’ocus, Reflection and Evaluation’ report as a start to your visual and written documentation. We think its a good idea to start planning for this now by saving your Potential Directions jpegs into a new file called Focus, Reflection, Evaluation report and have this material ready to use later in the year. Because at the end of the year you will be stressed and absorbed with completing your practical work so do what you can to ‘get ready’ for this visual and written task. Remember the Focus, Reflection and Evaluation report must be submitted at the same time as your finished artworks. Good luck with getting started. In Unit 4….. don’t forget you also need to learn about the Australian Art Industry too…
ART STUDENTS……….you are now leaping into Unit 4 the next part of your course also . As you know this Unit is called ‘Realisation and Resolution’. Art students are expected to continue to develop their ideas/work that they started in Unit 3. You have completed one finished artwork in Unit 3 and now must work towards resolving and refining your ideas and work to complete another finished artwork. By now you would also be aware that you need to use the Analytical Frameworks as a guide to discussing and reflecting upon your artworks as they evolve. Have a look at our Analytical Frmaeworks student textbook – it may be helpful to you. www.4cats.com.au see under publications. Annotation in your Work Book is very important and should be naturally developed throughout the formation of the body of artwork.

Art and Studio Arts students may be interested in reading an excellent article by Melbourne arts writer Gabriella Coslovich that was featured in The Age newspaper on April 15. The article presents a range of viewpoints on the use of appropriation in art in particular with reference to the recent winner of the Australian Wynne Prize artist Sam Leach.
