June 13th, 2014

Hello students and teachers. SO sorry for the long pause in communication. 4CATS has been SUPER busy setting up a new website. Finally we go ONLINE – which is brillant. YEAH!!!

Forget the single textbook on the booklist put 4CATS ‘HOOK UP’ on the booklist. Soon students will be able to subscribe to 4CATS ‘HOOK UP’ and have access to multiple publications by 4CATS for both VCE ART and VCE STUDIO ARTS students.

Not only will students have access to our publications online but they will also have access to lectures by 4CATS on various Study Design outcomes. 4CATS ‘HOOK UP’ will provide students with a 3 step process – WATCH THE LECTURE – READ THE PUBLICATIONS – COMPLETE THE CHECK/REVISION QUESTIONS.

SO WITH EXCITEMENT IN THE AIR we are very keen to have 4CATS ‘HOOK UP’ up and running so that 2014 students can make use of the material well before their Exams in Nov 2014.

Soon we will have a launch site online – – you can sign up here to receive updates or follow us on  instagram 4catseducation.

SO …..stayed tuned.

indent_2013_crop_blogsiteWhy do Studio Arts students need to review an art exhibition – simple – there will be a question in the final exam related to art exhibitions you have seen this year. Good news…….. Melbourne is the perfect city to find a top exhibition. BUT …how do I select a good exhibition – one that is best in terms of responding to an exam question? Well, like any research its best to go with an exhibition that provides the viewer (thats you) with lots of information about the exhibition. For example, who curated the exhibtion, what does the artist say about the work…. a catalogue is a great help. Importantly, its valuable also to see exhibitions in different galleries, for example a public gallery and a commercial gallery. The NGV is a fabulous resource for students. You have so many exhibitions being held at the one time so decide on whats best for you….. are you interested in photography or painting or fashion…go to their website and check out Whats On. For a comprehensive Exhibition Review within a commercial gallery see below.

On Saturday 12th October
GILLIGAN GRANT GALLERY  – a commercial gallery
will present an EXHIBITION REVIEW lecture
on  recent paintings by Bronwen Garners – ‘More Than A Feeling’.
10am until 11am - bookings essential contact -
entry fee $25

Term 3 is the most important term of all for VCE students. By this stage you’re well aware of how time consuming VCE ART and VCE STUDIO ARTS can be – practical work looks much easier than it really is. June/July holidays are the best time to consolidate ideas, prepare for tasks to be completed in term 3 and to start thinking about revision notes for exam prepartion. In combination with your practical work you need to consider that your final exam plays a significant part is your final assessment. Continue to spend time on your written work at the same time as working through your practical folio works. For STUDIO ARTS students make sure you have visited at least one exhibition by now and have collected notes in preparation for an exam question. For ART students think about your Art Debate – who is involved – what is the focus of the debate – are your notes clear and concise??

Annotation of artworks is a year long commitment and plays an important part in the assessment of your artworks. Spend time over the holidays catching up on notes and research. A student who receives a VERY HIGH on a criteria sheet always has valid and meaningful annotation associated with their artworks. Good luck and enjoy.imageblog_June_2013

Good luck

November 10th, 2012

The exam period has started! This is a special post just to say “GOOD LUCK” to all students in their VCE exams, especially for the Studio Arts exam this Monday, and the Art exam on the 13th of November. Looking for last minute advice? Don’t stress yourself out. Chances are, if you’ve done all your teacher has recommended, and studied consistently, all the knowledge will be there ready to come out as soon as you sit down at that desk. Make the most of reading time, start cultivating answers in your head if you finish going through the paper early, that way, you are ready to start immediately when they tell you you’re allowed to begin.

Again, we wish you the best of luck, and hope that our 4cats Art Publications have been helpful to you.

Exam Preparation

October 13th, 2012

Exams are looming! Although, I’m sure you’re well aware. For Art and Studio Art, we have our Exam Preparation Kits to help you. Please refer to our website for more information on purchasing them, or email

In the meantime, remember to be systematic with your revision. Divide your revision into small easy to handle sections. Practice short answer responses under time constraits. Ask your teacher for past exam papers to practice on! Practice analysing random artworks. And of course, don’t forget to have a break and eat a chocolate bar!
